Baby Nick

Finn looks more and more like Nick these days. Proof is in the picture.

This is what happens when I play with Grandy Nan

On our way to Sand Point.

The Saab we flew in was really loud so we all put in earplugs. Shortly
after this picture was taken, Finn started singing ON THE TOP OF HIS
LUNGS. He couldn't hear himself and had the whole plane in stitches.

This is why I love life.

My family, Alaska, glaciers, sunny days, good friends, traveling, well-behaved babies, fighting proposed mines, art, exploring new places (especially if they are outdoors).

A sunny, snowy Sunday walk on the Coastal Trail in Anchorage.

Finn saw his first moose. It was actually the second moose of the day, the first one was at our friend's home in Wasilla. Just so you know, I would NEVER usually let my precious family stand so close to a wild moose as they are one of Alaska's most dangerous animals. But this little moose was a young, habituated moose standing in a low ditch on the Coastal Trail in Anchorage and we were real quick taking the photo.

Cook Inlet looked like a frozen, muddy, dinosaur-dwelling megalithic landscape. You can't see it too well in this picture, but the texture in the mud behind Nick is actually 10' frozen icebergs. Isn't frozen seawater fascinating?

And a self-portrait that didn't quite capture all of us.

My favorite mummy picture

Finn and I at the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska.

Guess what, Grandy Nan?

I *almost* slept through the night last night! Only one quick wake up.
We are all really well rested and happy an loving the fresh Alaskan
air. Can't wait to see you in Anchorage on Sunday!

Yogi Naps

Welcome to Alaska, Finn!

The Hall family is in Juneau, Alaska for a gallery opening of Nick's Seasons of Subsistence photographs at the Silverbow Gallery. Finn was an angel on the plane (hah, you leery-eyed businessmen who rolled their eyes because we were sitting next to you lot with a baby), we were welcomed to town with a wonderful article written about us in the Juneau Empire, and Finn got to meet his Native Uppa (grandfather in Yup'ik). Nick has been dying to introduce Finn to his dear friend Tim Wonhola, who was the inspiration behind Seasons. Finn was thrilled to meet Tim and couldn't keep his little eyes off him.

I am sure that this is the beginning of a long friendship. It is certainly a great beginning to Finn's first trip to Alaska.

Our day.

Finn has been spending the afternoons at work with me. He does three
things:
1. Sleep
2. Jump in the johnny jump up and peers down the hall to see if anyone
is watching his amazing aeroacrobatics
3. Tries to type emails with me (which is SUPER cute for about 30
seconds or when my screen goes beserk, whichever comes first).

Have you ever heard of a Bumbo?

Nor had we. Until we attended our birth class baby reunion where all
the cool babies had one. It is perfect for Finn who recently started
to demand to sit up all the time. The only trouble is that he can't
quite sit up on his own. Bumbo is our perfect solution. Here he is
having his first sit in it. It is now on the kitchen counter ready for
action when we wake up and start our morning routine. No more baby
demanding to be held so he can see everything? Here's hoping!

And after our walk...

Daddy dressed me up like a little cowboy and called me Huckleberry for
the rest of the day.

What's the next thing a not-sick-anymore baby does?

Goes for a walk in the woods with Daddy and Mummy and Inca. Mummy
calls it shinrin-yoku and the rest of us call it an adventure.

What's the first thing a baby does when he's better?

Play with toys! All of them at once. Got a lot of catching up to do...

Hi.

I had a cold and was out of commission for the past week. But now I am
better and back to being a sweet and cute baby again.
